With sudden covid-19 outbreak in Changchun last week, all the staff and students at St John's were the first to respond and converted to an orderly online teaching. After accumulating experience in online teaching in March, the online teaching progressed in an orderly manner this time. The Head of academic, Mr. Michael Edmondson, led the academic team to investigate the online teaching platform. All academic staff developed the curriculum and set up teaching plans to ensure that students' online learning journey runs smoothly and simultaneously. Members of the School Office supported the academic team in setting up the online teaching and learning environment to ensure that students and parents are provided with a quality teaching and learning experience.
Online teaching takes the form of online lectures, tutorials, discussions, question and answer sessions, and teaching tracking to ensure the smooth progress of learning tasks and objectives. The St. John's people are gathered in the 'cloud' on the internet, so that teachers can teach with quality, students can learn with gain, and students can interact positively in the classroom, so that students are always in the same condition of learning as when they are taught offline.
During this online teaching period, the teaching team at St John's introduced an ‘Distance Learning Log’ assessment form to ensure the quality of teaching. The assessment forms enable each teacher to clarify their teaching plans and objectives. Thereby continuously enhancing the interactivity and fun of online teaching. We are able to provide students with a quality online classroom experience with solid professional knowledge, enthusiasm and flexible teaching methods. Hence, achieving a good orderly teaching atmosphere and improved learning efficiency.
In addition, during the online classes, teachers are constantly monitoring each student's learning and assignments to track and supervise the quality of teaching. We have always adhered to the school motto of ‘Through work to honour’, and we do not stop learning and teaching even though we are not in school. We continue to develop students' independent learning and self-management skills, communicate with teachers and students in a timely manner, and strengthen home-school cooperation.
We also focus on combining work and break time for our students and arrange the duration and number of online classes for each year group in a reasonable manner. There are professional PE teachers for online teaching, so that students can effectively play sports at home even during the epidemic. To enhance the physical fitness of students and to regulate their physical and mental health. Keep studying!Keep exercising!
St John's staff and all students will get through current difficulties and embrace a better future. During the context of the regular epidemic prevention and control, St John's will continue to look for an efficient online teaching methdology to provide quality education services to students. Let us wait for the epidemic to dissipate and look forward to the restart of new school days!
